Long stony beach which is an extension of Pwllheli's south beach.. Caravan parks in the area.

Abersoch, The Warren SH319291
Long stretch of sand to the north of Abersoch. Large caravan site nearby but the beach is big! Abersoch is small but busy in the summer. West Coast Surf is a very friendly shop and can also arrange surfing lessons at Hell's Mouth.

Abersoch, Morfa Gors SH317261
Large sandy beach to the south of the small town of Abersoch. Car parking. Popular and busy in the summer. There are groynes on this beach. It is likely that someone will be hiring canooes, dingies and sailboards from this beach during the summer of 2006. West Coast Surf in Abersoch are friendly and helpful, they can also arrange surfing lessons at Hell's Mouth.

Porth Ceiriad SH311248
Only pebbles at high tide but lots of sand at mid and low tide. Its a beautiful bay and not to many caravans close by. Its reached by narrow roads, there is parking, and about a kilometre walk to the beach.

Porth Neigwl or Hell's Mouth SH265276
Massive area of sand and very popular with surfers which can make parking a problem on very busy days. This beach used to have a reputation for some undertow so some care is advised. Surfing lessons, board and wetsuit hire can be arranged from the friendly guys at West Coast Surf in Abersoch. Another favourite!

Porth Ysgo SH210262
Limited parking with a walk down to a rocky beach with two or three coves and some patches of sand. Small scale mining activity once took place here - there is a small winding wheel and some quarry holes. Unlikely to be busy and good for a short walk, but there are better places to swim!

Aberdaron SH175263
Large sand and shingle beach. Some carpparking in the small village but very popular and busy in the summer. Two inns, one with a veranda overlooking the beach and the sea, a couple of cafes and shops. Another favourite with many people.

Porth Oer or Whistling Sands SH166299
Small sandy bay and a real gem! Large National Trust carpark and toilets a steep walk back from the beach. Its called Whistling Sands because it can squeak when you walk on it. There is a small beach shop open in the summer. Good coastal walks in both directions. Best time is just before sunset when most people have left and the sea is often very calm. Rock pools at either end are an added bonus.

Traeth Penllech SH204346
Fair-sized sandy beach, car park and camp site available.

Porth Dinllaen SH278411
Long sandy and beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs. Car park above beach. Toilet and shops nearby. There is a pub at the far western end of the beach which increases its popularity!

Long sandy and beautiful beach bordered by cliffs. Car parking for six cars near beach, larger carpark on cliff top. Small cafe. Toilets and shops nearby.

Dinas Dinlle Beach SH435563
Long stony and sandy beach which runs into South Sands. Car park picnic benches and camping facilities available. Nearby airport does pleasure flights.

Borth y Gest SH565375
Borth y Gest is a small village outside Portmadog with parking and toilets. Shop and tearooms. Village beach is muddy with some moored boats - this is the estuary of the Glaslyn river so bathing is potentially dangerous with strong currents. The coast path heads south west past a few sandy bays and finally comes to Morfa Bychan or Black Rock Sands. Lovely short walk and some rocks and small caves as pass Garreg Coch. Further along (before Black Rock Sands) there is a small area of oil on the beach. Parc y Borth woods is a nature reserve behind the village with an orienteering course.

Criccieth Beach SH376500
Sand and shingle beach next to the small town. At the eastern edge of the town is a beach cafe and a short fun nine hole pitch and putt course. Also in the area is the castle built by Llewelyn but later taken by Edward 1st. In the vicinity ids the Lloyd George museum atLlanystumdwy, and I believe a rabbit farm and horse riding. A shingly beach also stretches west of the town but isn't inspiring.

Llanbedrog SH332304
A large beach of sand and small stone shingle. National Trust with a large carpark and cafe in the summer. Beach is backed by a bank with trees, shrubs and gorse. Not bad.

Black Rock Sands, near Portmadog SH530373
Large sandy beach with the big north sand bank being exposed at low tide. Cars are allowed on this beach which makes it very popular. Take care never to drive past the warning signs on the east side of the beach. Its is possible to walk round to Borth y Gest. Another favorite with many people. Ropeworks - an adventure play area is close by and apparantly the nearby Portmadog Activity Centre does ponytrekking.

Portmerion SH594372
Portmerion is a private village built by Clough William Ellis of an Italianate design, and was popularised by the TV series The Prisoner. Beautiful location with woods and gardens but as its in the Glaslyn esturary the currents will be strong.

Pontllyfni SH430525
Shingle with some sand at low tide. No parking. Possible to walk from Dinas Dinlle to Trefor at low tide.

Aberdesach beach SH424515
Parking. Part of long mainly shingle strand from Dinas Dinlle to Trefor. Good for sunsets.

Clynnog Fawr SH500410
Long mainly shingle but some sand at low tide which stretches from Dinas Dinlle to Trefor. Famous St Bueno's church in village, stopover on pilgrimage to Bardsey Island. Parking is a problem but an inn in the village.

Trefor Beach SH375474
Small sandy beach next to a small harbour with a slipway. Beach turns into large pebbles and mud to the NE. Can walk over the NT headland to a fine pebble beach which continues until the 'Rivals' meet the sea.

Trwyn y Gorlech, Trefor SH356465
A gorgeous pebble beach which is reached from the carpark at Trefor beach and a short beautiful clifftop walk.

Porth y Nant SH345446
Steep beach, pebble higher and sand as tide goes out and at the northern end. Site of Nant Gwrtheyrn - the Welsh language centre. Small cafe sometimes open. Lots of parking at top of cliff, very steep road down with limited parking. Beautiful place but beware of old quarry workings and cliffs.

Pistyll SH325425
Long pebble and shingle beach - lots of pretty mottled pebbles. Wonderful noise as waves wash on the pebbles. Very little parking. Take track to the right of the church and across the meadow to the stile.

Porth Ychain SH211360
Small sheltered cove, shingle. No parking and best approached by walking the coastal path. Better beaches around.

Porth Gwylan, Tudweiliog SH216368
Sheltered shingle cove with rocks either side. Flat clifftop walk in both directions.

PorthYsgaden SH218375
Small shingle beach, surrounded by rocks. Better swimming at Porth Towyn to the north. Parking for about six cars at end of track. Flat and beautiful coastal walk either direction. Second bay just round the head to the north with small shingle beach and several fishing huts.

Porth Towyn, Tudweiliog SH231376
Another gem of a beach (though it may disappear at very high tide. Pristine sand and several bays under some cliffs. Rock pools. Some static caravans above, but out of site and parking at the farm. Coastal path.

Porth Wen Bach SH189338
Just south of Traeth Penllech, North Lleyn peninsula. Very rocky and rough, steep descents. Possibly good fishing or looking for marine life on the rock shelves, not for swimming! Great part of the coastal path.

Porth Ty - Mawr SH188331
Just south of Traeth Penllech, North Lleyn Peninsula. Very rocky with a couple of small bits of sand and shingle. Possibly good for fishing and marine life on the rock shelf but not for swimming! Very steep descent. Good section of the coastal path.

Porth Widlin SH183326
Just south of Traeth Penllech, North Lleyn peninsula. Some sand but no recommended for swimming. Lots of rocks, rock shelf and seaweed in this area. Also some fishermen.

Porth Meudwy SH163255
Pebble beach reached by track surrounded by scrub woodland and birdsong. A few fishing boats and the de[arture point for Bardsey Island (has to be arranged in advance!)This is really the last beach for swimming until Whistling Sands - and nowhere near as good as there or Aberdaron. The coves around the headland have extremely difficult access from above but the walking is magnificent. Important area for breeding sea birds. Carpark at start of the track.

Porth y Wratch SH167306
A small sand beach (not at high tide) just north of Portoer (nr end of Lleyn peninsula. Difficult access from above. Probably not worth the effort seen Porth Oer is so good.

Porth Iago SH166317
A beautiful sandy cove with parking reached through the farm. Another gem!

Porth Ferin SH172322
Another pebbly cove with fishing hut and a couple of small boats. Pleasant but no comparison with Porth Iago to the south. Great coastal walking.
